  • I'm planning to help the kids develop their map reading skills, See if they can find the den leaders house from map quest. this is Family Activity, requirement 2F on page 42 of the Tiger Cub manual. I'll have another map reading exercise, during the meeting.

  • Please bring or email a picture of your scout for their scrapbooks. I will be sure to make a copy and have the original photo returned to you.

For our monthly "Go See", we are working on getting the boys into a tour of the Costa Mesa Police Department, through a family friend. I'll keep you posted when I get possible times and dates.

Thanksgiving will require only one den meeting this month. We have a scheduled Pack meeting on November 16, 2011

In order to get your Bobcat Badge, your cub must know the following. Please work with your Tiger Cubs before the Pack Meeting on November 17th, when they will be tested for their badges!
  • Learn to say the CUB SCOUT PROMISE (and know what it means):
"I, (name) promise to do my best to do my duty to God and my country,To help other people, and To obey the Law of the Pack."

It means:
Duty to God means to put God 1st. Do what you know God wants you to do.
Duty to my country means to do what you can for your country. Be proud that you are an American.
Do things for other that would please them.
Obey the Law of the Pack means be a good Cub Scout. Be proud that you are one.
  • Say the Law of the Pack (tell what it means):
"The Cub Scout follows Akela. The Cub Scout helps the pack go. The pack helps the Cub Scout grow. The Cub Scout gives goodwill."

It means:
The Cub Scout follows Akela (say Ah-KAY-la) means follow good leader. Your mother or father is Akela, In the pack, your Cubmaster is Akela. Your Den Leader is Akela. At school, your teacher is Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the pack go means: Come to all the meetings. Do what you can to help. Think of others in the pack.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow means: You can have fun when you are part of the pack. Learn things from other. Do things with them.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill means: Smile! Be happy. Do things that make others happy. They don't have to be big things. Little things help, too.

  • Know the Sign
"Hold your right hand high above your shoulder with the first two fingers forming a "v" it stands for "to help other people" and "obey". When you see it, make the sign, be quiet and settle down."

  • Know the handshake
All of the boys know this. Hold your right hand out just as if you would shake hands, but place your first two fingers along the inside of the other boy's wrist. These fingers mean the other cub scout is to be trusted, and that he also obeys the Law of the Pack. ( you can see a printed demonstration of this on page 33 of the Tiger Cub handbook)

  • Know the Moto:
"Do Your Best"
  • Know the salute:
I'll go over this with them again, but is used always with the flag ceremonies and shows goodwill and respect as well as courtesy.
  • Know what WEBELOS MEANS:
WE'll Be LOyal Scouts

I'll have copies of the other requirement in the front of the Tiger book for you to go over with your Tiger as the last requirement, having to do with ensuring the boys know how to protect themselves from preditors, basically

DON'T FORGET - Please bring back homework on chore your Tiger and you do together.

I couldn't do it without you, please feel free to call or write back anytime.
Thanks!!Steve 714 697-3369 or 714 434-0834
